WHAT THE COURSE IS ABOUT
The Singapore Government School Preparatory Course is a 20-week English and Mathematics course, designed to prepare international students for admission into Singapore schools at Secondary 3 level. English and Mathematics are important subjects that will help international students ease into the Singapore education system and excel at other subjects, where the majority of terms and analysis are done in the English language.
Upon successful completion of the Singapore Government School Preparatory Course in CHEC, a student will have the option of continuing their education in CHEC (in a one or two-year programme that leads to GCE 'O' level certification) or in Singapore government schools.
WHAT THE COURSE COVERS
In line with our service guarantee, we will cover the syllabus approved by Singapore Ministry of Education.

Components of listening, reading, speaking and writing the language will be purposefully weaved in the lesson plans. Lecturers will focus on the foundational building blocks of the English Language, namely Grammar, Vocabulary, Spelling and Pronunciation. Students are to expect rigorous exercises testing them on grammar rules and sentence construction. In addition, students will be exposed to different genres of essay writing as well as comprehension skills to tackle the set questions.
Subject: Mathematics
The syllabus is intended to provide students with fundamental mathematical knowledge and skills. Lecturers will focus on training the candidates to understand and use mathematical concepts and skills in a variety of contexts. They will get to solve higher order thinking problems and interpret mathematical results and make inferences, write mathematical explanation and arguments.
At the point of registration, applicants need to sit for an English and Mathematics entry test (the Mathematics paper may be done in the local tongue of the international student). Students who join the course late will have to make up for lessons through self-study and consultation with teachers. Upon acceptance, students are required to attend 30 hours of lessons weekly.
At the end of the Singapore Government School Preparatory Course, CHEC will arrange for a PACT/AEIS and/or School Placement Test*. The test result, as well as space availability, will determine the admission of the international student either into CHEC or a Singapore government school. The Singapore Ministry of Education's entry requirement for international students into Singapore government schools for Secondary 3 level is between 14 and 16 years of age.
*Students wishing to take the test in the middle of the Singapore Government School Preparatory Course will have the option of doing so. Do note that separate test fees apply.
